The unit also kept the pocket clean for QB Cam Newton, allowing only 35 sacks for the season. The Panthers produced 45 points, tied for fourth in franchise history, in a Week 10 contest against Miami, when the offense rushed for a season-high 294 yards, two rushing TDs and did not allow a sack.
In 2016, Norwell started 16 games at left guard for the first time in his career and was the team’s only offensive lineman to start all 16 games at the position in which he opened the season. Carolina boasted the 10th-ranked rushing unit and averaged 113.4 rushing yards per game in 2016. In 2015, Norwell started 13 regular season games and all three postseason contests, including Super Bowl 50 vs. Denver. Norwell attended The Ohio State University, appearing in 50 career games with 39 starts for the Buckeyes. He was a three-time All-Big Ten selection, including First-Team All-Big Ten honors as a senior in 2013 and a junior in 2012. Norwell started his final 34 games at left guard and helped the Buckeyes’ run game power its way to ten 300-yard rushing games in 2012 and 2013, which is as many 300-yard games as Ohio State had in the previous 17 years before Norwell’s time in Columbus, Ohio, dating back to 1996.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Norwell attended Anderson High School.
